From the Owner: One of my favorite aunts, Aunt Fannie, was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease and became in need of support.  She was a widow and did not have children, lived alone and was progressing in age.  Within a year after trying to support her remotely, she moved into the home with our family.  Our lives changed significantly as a result.  We had never lived with a person with dementia or Alzheimer’s and we did not know what to expect, what to do and what not to do. I was suddenly exposed to unique responsibilities and support systems that were foreign to me and my family. For over 3 years Aunt Fannie lived in our home.  At first she was able to stay alone during the day while we were at school or work without supports.  She later stated attending adult day care during the week which was successful for a while.  After another level of decline, we hired a live-in staff to care for her. Toward the last few months of her life, she was placed in an assisted living home near our home.  We believe the treatment at that home led to her being hospitalized several times and finally she was in a nursing/rehabilitation  home for the last few weeks of her life. That journey led me to realize the need for good assisted living homes and understanding the greater needs for our elderly.  Kekeli Assisted Living provides personal assistance, advocacy and support for the life-journey that a senior travels.
